The 3mm long insect, which was discovered in the Amazon rainforest dates back around 120 million years. The scientists used DNA samples from its leg to establish its likely age. Biologist Manfred Verhaagh said: “It’s by far the most spectacular find of my 26 year career.” The last discovery of a new ant species was back in 1923. .
