Independent's marketing to be handled by Freuds
Independent News & Media (IN&M) has appointed Freud Communications to develop a branding and marketing campaign for the newspaper.
The publisher parted company with CST (previously Chick Trott Smith) after seven years at the end of last year.
The appointment follows Freuds' acquisiton of advertising agency dfgw last year which now enables the company to develop a full service marketing offering for clients.
IN&M is undergoing a period of upheaval with the announced departures of managing director Terry Grote and marketing director David Greene. The editor of The Independent on Sunday, Tristan Davies, also recently left.
The Independent and Independent on Sunday have both seen circulations fall, although January ABC figures for average net circulation saw a both enjoy a recovery. The Independent's circulation rose 9.74 per cent to 250,641 and the Independent on Sunday leapt 19.31 per cent to 236,500. Year-on-year, the titles were down 5.83 per cent and 5.48 per cent respectively.
Last month, the paper unveiled a new website with a new design and a range of additional features aimed to enable users to interact with the brand more easily.
The Independent was the first UK daily broadsheet to switch to the “compact†format. Its rivals, with the exception of The Daily Telegraph, have all followed suit.
