Thetrainline.com plans campaign starring sheep

Thetrainline.comRail ticket retailer Thetrainline.com is launching a television campaign focussing on the cost savings that can be achieved by using its site.

The campaign has been devised by Delaney Lund Knox Warren and is the first |TV activity for the brand since 2001. There is supporting outdoor and online activity.

The advertisement launches on 1 October and features sheep running around a train station looking frantic. A man who has bought his tickets on thetrianline.com walks through the crowd to board his train. The ad ends with the strapline “Thetrainline.com, your first stop for train tickets”.

Media planning and buying has been handled by Vizeum. Thetrainline.com has also overhauled its website and launched a new navigational tool.

Director of marketing Iain Hildreth says: “Ata  time when consumers are feeling the pinch, we wanted to highlight the significant savings that can be made when booking in advance compared to buying a ticket at the station on the day of travel.”

The company was bought by private equity group Exponent last year for £163 million. It was originally launched as a venture between Virgin Trains, Stagecoach and National Express.
