T-Mobile to sell first Google mobile in November
T-Mobile will start selling the G1 mobile, the first phone to be powered by Google's Android operating system, in the UK in November.
The UK release date follows the US, where the phone goes on sale for $179 (£97) with a two-year contract from 22 October.
The G1, built by manufacturer HTC, features a QWERTY keyboard, along with touchscreen functionality and popular Google services including Google Maps Street View, Gmail and YouTube.
It also features an Amazon MP3 application, which allows consumers to download music over-the-air from a choice of six million DRM-free tracks.
The phone also offers access to the Android market, a digital download store featuring applications and services.
Downloads available at launch include ShopSavvy, to scan the barcode of a product to compare prices, Ecorio used to track users' carbon footprint and Breadcrumbz which creates visual maps using photos.
Andy Rubin, senior director of mobile platforms for Google said the G1 was designed to help connect people with information.
"With Android, we've opened the mobile web not only for millions of users, but also to mobilise the developer community that understands the next most important platform in the world rests in the palm of our hand," Rubin says.
