Starcom MediaVest global CEO steps down
Renetta McCann, global chief executive of Publicis's Starcom MediaVest Group (SMG), is stepping down from the agency network after nine years of management roles to spend more time with her family.
Laura Desmond, chief executive of SMG, the Americas, will take her place, effective immediately.
McCann started her SMG career as a media buyer in 1978 at Leo Burnett, rising through the ranks before becoming CEO of SMG in the America’s in 1999.
The Chicago-born McCann became group global CEO in 2005.
In a statement, McCann said: “I have been given the opportunity to build an incredible organisation during a decade of management responsibility, but I now recognise that some family matters and personal goals have unfortunately taken a back seat during this time. I would like to give them my full attention now."
She will spend the next six months helping Desmond’s transition into the global CEO role.
Desmond said: "I was not expecting to fill the global CEO role at this point in my career. But the fact that I am prepared to do it is a testament to Renetta McCann, to the remarkable talent that populates this network, and to the forward-thinking clients that have challenged and inspired me to constantly up my game.”
