UK set for iTunes TV serviceApple will make several hit television shows available in the UK via its iTunes Store for the first time, after striking a deal with a clutch of US television companies.

The 28 programmes, including shows such as Lost, Ugly Betty (pictured)and Desperate Housewives, will cost £1.89 an episode.

The shows have been available on iTunes in the US for some time, following an agreement between Apple and the likes of ABC Studios, the Disney Channel, MTV and Nickelodeon.

The US production houses have now allowed this tie-up to extend to the UK.

Brands have increasingly looked to iTunes, and some of Apple’s other products, as ways of reaching consumers. Coca-Cola recently partnered with Google for an online push to promote its music offering on iTunes.

The much-hyped iPhone is also creating interest, with social networking brand Facebook creating a special website for the device.

Eddy Cue, vice president of iTunes at Apple, said: “We’re thrilled to bring TV programming to the iTunes Store in the UK.

“We’ve got 28 shows and expect to add more great programming.”
