The Apprentice casts its spell
The new series of The Apprentice, the business-based reality show judged by Sir Alan Sugar, scored an audience of 6.4 million for its debut on BBC1.
This compares to 5 million viewers for the opening episode of the last series when The Apprentice first made its switch from BBC2. The show has been heavily trailed on the BBC.
The show was scheduled at 9 pm last night (26 March) against ITV1’s recently launched new reality show-based drama Rock Rivals. The latter saw an audience of 2.2 million, down from its opening of 3.9 million on 6 March.
Channel 4’s Grand Designs revisited pulled a credible 3.3 million viewers and Five’s Extraordinary People: The Man With No Face, found an audience of 1.7 million.
The Apprentice also went up against Grand Designs last year
Last July BSkyB bought Sir Alan’s Amstrad business for £125 million.
