Videojug to reposition with focus on social offer
Videojug, the 'how to' video website, will move to become a 'social knowledge network', following the appointment of GCap new media director Tom Laidlaw.
Laidlaw, who joined Videojug this month as product and operations director, is the latest digital industry heavyweight to join the company led by global CEO Nancy Cruickshank.
He will be responsible for driving Videojug's growth as it looks to expand from a video library into a wider social offering. The startup has raised £35m in backing so far.
Cruickshank said the site was moving to "amplify" its existing social tools, which include sharing, ranking, rating and the embedding of surveys, polls and discussions.
"Over the last few years Videojug has grown into the largest global library asset of non-fiction, short-form, informative video reference content. We're now looking to build on that to create a social knowledge network," said Cruickshank.
"We're moving to amplify the tools further and to build communities around different genres on the site," she added.
Cruickshank said the aim was to provide consumers with all the information they need to make decisions by providing tips and advice, links to price-comparison and community-generated information, as well as using advertising to fit around the proposition.
"We want to make people feel that Videojug is a compelling social knowledge network as opposed to purely a video resource. While that is still at our core, we're so much more than that," she said.
Laidlaw will be responsible for product and technical development and operations management for Videojug. He will oversee content production and marketing, and Videojug's publishing, design and development divisions will also report in to him.
Laidlaw left GCap following internal restructures within the radio network. Jude Brooks, interactive manager at Capital Radio, has also left the company.
