Politicians and celebrities unite for green campaign
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has joined his predecessor Tony Blair and a host of other public figures, including new London Mayor Boris Johnson, footballer David James and singer songwriter Annie Lennox, to promote an online film urging public action on climate change.
The short film to mark the first anniversary of charity group Together is called Together, We Can, and features a cast of celebrities and business CEOs urging people to get involved with living “greener lives”.
Brands supporting the campaign include Coca-Cola, B&Q, Barclaycard, British Gas, BSkyB, Marks & Spencer, More Th>n, MySpace, National Express, O2, Tesco and Warner Bros.
Former Prime Minister Tony Blair said: “Climate change is the biggest long-term challenge facing our generation and it is only working together that we can solve it.
“I helped launch Together last year and it is encouraging to see millions of actions taken by the British public and over 500,000 tonnes of CO2 saved. We now need to build on this momentum and make it easy for everyone to become part of the solution to climate change, not the problem.
“This unique coalition, bringing together business, government, civil society and individuals, has the power to do just that, which is why it has my ongoing support in this crucial work.”
The film is being emailed to 1,300 opinion-formers and distributed online via YouTube, LondonPaper, MySpace and MSN. It can be viewed from today at www.together.com/togetherwecan.
David Hall, campaign director at Together, said: “We are delighted our important climate campaign has attracted such diverse and widespread support and hope more people will discover the easy affordable things we can do in our everyday lives to fight climate change.”
