google mobileGoogle and US mobile operator Verizon are close to agreeing a partnership that will boost Google's mobile offering, according to reports.

The search engine giant is set to become the exclusive provider for Verizon subscribers following final negotiations around storing user data.

The deal would see its search box embedded in the operator's portal as the default engine.

The deal with the US' second largest operator would offer valuable reach to Google, which currently has a similar agreement with Vodafone in the UK. Rival UK operators 3, Orange, O2 and T-Mobile have partnered with Yahoo! as their search provider.
