WSJ to sell US edition in LondonThe Wall Street Journal (WSJ), owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp since December, is set to sell its US print edition in London, the first time the newspaper has been printed in Europe.

From the 16 April, the US edition of the WSJ will be made available in the capital several hours before it goes on sale in the US from selected areas in central London.

It will sit alongside its established regional edition Wall Street Journal Europe to compete against Pearson’s Financial Times.

The decision to make the larger four-section US Journal available coincides with a renewed international focus on the US ,as the financial markets continue to experience turmoil.

Michael Bergmeijer, managing director of Dow Jones’ Consumer Media Group in Europe, said: “We believe a large number of internationally-minded people living and working in London will value the US edition, and we’ll now be able to give them the competitive advantage of having the world’s best business paper five hours ahead of US readers.

“This move is all about giving our readers greater choice and our commitment to the European edition remains as strong as ever."

Some 250 newsagents in the City, the West End and Canary Wharf, as well Heathrow and London City airports, will sell the paper at £2.50. It will also be available for individual and corporate subscribers in the centre of the capital.

Publisher Dow Jones denies its addition takes anything away from WSJ Europe, which celebrates 25 years of publishing this year and claims a readership of 220,000.

“Nearly eighty-per cent of Journal Europe readers are European citizens and we’ll continue to offer them an unrivalled combination of relevant global business news and analysis throughout Europe, coupled with a regional perspective and concise format.”
