tennentsTennent’s 1885 is to sponsor the Edinburgh International Film Festival as part of marketing campaign to promote the return of the export lager to Scottish stores for the first time in more than a century.

The festival sponsorship, which takes place 18-29 June, is to come at the end of a campaign which also includes outdoor and sampling activity.

Tennent’s 1885, which returned to Scottish stores last month, launched a two-week long outdoor campaign on Monday (5 May) created by Newhaven Advertising with media planning and buying handled by Starcom.

The campaign features six sheets at roadside sites across the central belt of Scotland and the country’s top ten Tesco stores. Four sheets are on display at Glasgow’s underground stations and digital screen ads feature at Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.

The ads, which were shot in Amsterdam by photographer Eddo Hartman, aim to reflect 1885’s premium quality but with a contemporary twist. They feature straplines including ‘1885. It’s the future’ with another announcing the 1885 bottle as ‘NEW(ish).

Nicola Trainor, senior brand manager for Tennet’s Lager, which also sponsors music festival T in the Park, said: “1885 is a premium product that is proud of its heritage and the advertising reflects both its quality and Tennent’s personality.

“1885 is already making a strong impact with consumers who are enjoying its continental flavour and the outdoor campaign will strengthen awareness of the brand.”
