Sega hunts DM agencyGames giant Sega (UK) is understood to be seeking a direct marketing agency to handle its CRM account.

The company behind Sonic the Hedgehog moved out of the console market in 2002, and now concentrates on producing games.

The review follows last year’s restructure of the marketing department. Brand manager Tina Moore was promoted to marketing director for the UK, reporting to managing director Alan Pritchard, while Ben Stevens was promoted to international marketing manager.

A company spokesman denied it was looking for an agency.

Sega last appointed a marketing agency in 2006, when Modem Media was hired to handle online advertising for a number of its computer games.

The agency was appointed without a pitch and was tasked with developing the online gaming experience for the PC title Medieval 2: Total War. Modem was briefed to redesign and develop the series website in time for Medieval 2’s November launch.

Its latest game, based on the children’s TV show Dinosaur King, is set to launch on the Nintendo DS platform in the autumn.

Sega was founded in 1940 as Standard Games in Honolulu, Hawaii, to provide coin-operated amusements for US servicemen on military bases.

It moved to Tokyo in 1951 and changed its name to Sega Enterprises in 1965. It launched the Sega Mega Drive – taking on Nintendo – in 1990.
