Vodafone head of direct marketing Richard Broadbent is the latest casualty of the company's mass redundancy programme.

Broadbent's exit follows last month's departure of Vodafone head of brand and marketing Dominic Chambers and chief marketing officer Tim Yates last month. The marketing department is currently being overseen by Charlie Smith.

Broadbent was at Vodafone for nearly two years. Over 450 employees have been made redundant by the telecoms company, as part of its plans to simplify its operating model.

The redundancies are in line with Vodafone's new strategy to implement a series of initiatives to invest in the data sales and service experience, in order to stay ahead of its competitors.

Vodafone UK will recruit 330 retail advisors into its stores to ensure its customers receive the best service experience and to meet data product sales demand across the UK.

In addition an 850-seat purpose built customer services centre will be built in Stoke-on-Trent, and the business will significantly develop its online sales and customer service activity, including enhanced e-billing capability.
