James Dyson looks to colleges
‘We have had a number of approaches from educational institutes seeking financial support from us,’ says a spokeswoman for Dyson.
‘Our trustees will meet in a couple of weeks to make a decision on those applications,’ she adds.
She indicated that funding existing schools could directly replace plans for the Dyson school.
Due to launch in the first half of next year, the website will feature an online educational community intended to ‘help young people get involved in design and engineering’, according to the spokeswoman.
Dyson abandoned plans for the Bath school earlier this week, after the government rejected its funding proposal.
The engineer had pledged £12.5m to the project through his charity, the James Dyson Foundation.
The school would have provided hands-on engineering experience for 14- to 19-year-olds and adults, working with brands including Rolls-Royce and Airbus.
