Asda delays launch of transactional George site
Asda has delayed the launch of its transactional website for its George clothing range.
The Walmart-owned supermarket told nma in May (nma 25 May) that the first transactional website for its George line would open this September, however the company has now said it has no launch date.
A spokeswoman for George said: "Although speculative date and we obviously want to make sure we get this right."
Asda Direct, which will sell products such as electrical items and fitness equipment, will also be launched later this year.
"We will offer an extended range through a catalogue and dedicated website," said Asda's spokeswoman.
"Obviously non-food has got huge growth potential so we hope customers will be pleased with what we will have to offer, both in terms of George.com and Asda Direct".
Tesco trialled online clothing sales in November 2007 but it was closed in March 2008.
The news comes as Adsa has hired James Sheffield as George ecommerce manager. He joins from opticians D&A.
